The Benefits of Rhodiola and How to Use It To Reduce Stress

One of my favourite adaptogens for stress management and honestly my go to is Rhodiola.

Rhodiola Rosea is a flower that grows in the Arctic regions of Europe, Asia, and North America. Known as the golden root, it’s root is both an adaptogen and a nootropic, like many of the other unique and incredible adaptogens — such as ginseng, ashwagandha, and schizandra—Rhodiola helps the body adapt to the effects of stress. It’s also known to energize the body, while keeping your emotions cool, calm and your mind focused.

Rhodiola is definitely one of my favourites and quite possibly the best natural mood enhancer available. It’s been shown to have potential anti-depressant activity and in a 2019 review of Rhodiola, researchers noted that it may have multiple benefits:

  • Proven to improve mental output amid mentally stimulating and physically challenging occasions.
  • Rhodiola can reduce cognitive exertion, which can enable you to function better and faster.
  • It also can improve endurance during physical exercises. The effects have proven to show that people performed better during cardio and strength training.
  • Your body’s resistance to anxiety and stress improves. The body’s ability to combat stressful situations gets better.
  • It helps fight chronic fatigue. The excessive tiredness and extreme exhaustion in the body can be tackled with the help of Rhodiola.

Rhodiola works by helping you build resistance to stressors in the body by inducing a mild activation of the stress system via the hypothalamus pituitary axis (HPA) giving rise to adaptive and stress-protective effects. The beneficial effects can be experienced in multiple systems as the HPA axis also contributes to the nervous, cardiovascular, immune, gastrointestinal and endocrine systems.
